New Product and Review – Mum’s Secret

I first came across Mum’s Secret Soothe and Repair Cream when I met the lovely Emma at a baby expo in Brisbane about a year ago. It was winter and my hands were extremely dry due to the dry weather and washing my hands so often as well as always scrubbing and cleaning something – just the day to day mum stuff! My hands were so dry and damaged that the skin on my knuckles was bright red and cracking and even bleeding in places. The pain was terrible and I hadn’t been able to find any products to use. Every cream or moisturiser I tried would sting and I would have to rinse it off. When I stumbled across the Mum’s Secret display I was a little hesitant to try the cream but was so glad I did. It didn’t sting! It was instantly soothing and wasn’t greasy, it just rubbed right in. I purchased a tube then and there and have been hooked ever since.

Mum’s Secret has become a firm favourite in our house for every ailment from dry skin, rashes and insect bites to burns and even nappy rash and cradle cap. My two sons have since taken ownership of “mum’s special blue cream” as it has come to be know in our house. It is the only cream that they will allow me to put on them, no matter what their problem is.

I find it exceptional as a nappy rash cream. I pop a little on at the first sign of redness (using a flushable liner inside my cloth nappies) and it clears up within a few nappy changes. It is safe to use with your cloth nappies (always use a liner when using any creams with your nappies for additional protection for your nappies) as it is free from lanolin and petroleum which can cause your nappies to repel.

Another huge benefit for me is that is free from parabens, petrochemicals, mineral oils, nut oils, fragrance and parfum. Not to mention that it was developed by two mums!

Given my true love of this hugely versatile product (you only need one cream for many of the ailments your family will encounter), you can imagine my excitement when the wonderful Emma asked me to stock Mum’s Secret at Fluffy Tails.

Mum’s Secret is available online in the Fluffy Tails webstore now and I also have some samples of this fabulous cream that I will be including in all of the orders that I will be sending out so that you can all try Mum’s Secret for yourselves.

Lactation Cookies (aka the best chocolate chip cookies ever!)

Whenever I mention lactation cookies, people always ask me for the recipe so I thought I would write a blog post with the recipe so I don’t have to type it up constantly :)

Firstly, lactation cookies are a cookie that includes a few ingredients (flaxseed meal, oats and brewers yeast) that are said to help with a breastfeeding mother’s milk supply. Other than that, they are a really yummy chocolate chip cookie recipe that I continue to make although I no longer breastfeed!

Flaxseed meal and brewers yeast (it must be brewers yeast and not normal yeast) can be found at most health food shops. Try checking out their bulk food section as that is where I buy mine. This means I can buy just a small scoop as only a little bit is needed for the recipe.

I was given this recipe from a friend so I’m not sure who to credit for it, but whoever you are out there – THANK YOU!!

Lactation Cookies

1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
4 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons flaxseed meal
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups plain flour
2 tablespoons brewers yeast
1 teaspoon bicarb soda
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups oats
1 cup chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 180°C.

Mix together flaxseed meal and water, set aside for 3 – 5 minutes.

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, mix well. Stir flaxseed mixture and add with vanilla to the butter mix. Beat until blended.

Sift together dry ingredients, except oats and chocolate chips. Add to butter mixture. Stir in oats then chocolate chips.

Form cookies and place on baking sheet.

Bake 8 – 12 minutes depending on size of cookies.
